Summary: Two coal miners pose in an underground area examining a gauge. Both men are wearing carbide headlamps on hardhats. The man with the gauge in his hand wears a leather shoulder bag across his leather jacket, and his khaki work pants are stained with coal dust. The man beside him is clad in a striped coverall, belted. This is a photograph taken for use by the Bismarck (N.D.). Bureau of the Associated Press Newspaper association. A caption on the back reads: Forethought is Keynote of Safety. Other information links this image with the Knife River Coal Mining Company of Beulah (N.D.).
