Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0075-244, "#324", "2" in a circle, and "Sitting Bull copy of a photo by D.F. Barry".
Summary: This is a copy of the famous 1881 photographic portrait taken of Sitting Bull in the Bismarck, Dakota Territory studio of D. F. Barry. Chief Sitting Bull looks directly at the camera, he wears a cloth shirt, collarless, two feathers on his head, and his braids bound in fur strips. This image was used in the North Dakota volume of the Federal Writers' Project American Guide Series publications, produced between 1937 and 1941.
