Folder: 0008
Item: 00287
Title: WPA-built Art Deco Fairgrounds building, Grand Forks (N.D.)
Date: 1936-1942
Inscription/Marks: On the front in green ink: Grand Forks Fair Grounds. On the back: 0075-287, and "A (?)1" stamped.
Summary: Built as a WPA project in the 1930s in Grand Forks (N.D.) the building shown is one of many structures originally constructed at the site. Several still stand, but it unclear if this is one of the surviving structures. A long single story building, the facade is styled with Art Deco detailing. The facade has a ziggurat shape and there is a flat projecting awning panel extending across the center section of the front wall. The use of horizontal lines is noticeable in the design of the building. This is a winter scene. A sign advertising the WPA is visible on the side of the building, as is a public telephone sign.
