Collection: 00075 - Historical Data Project Photograph Collection
Folder: 0013
Item: 00510
Title: Trading Post of Antoine Gingras near Walhalla (N.D.)
Date: 1936-1942
Inscription/Marks: On the front: "3" in the top margin, and two circles around parts of the pictured building. On the back: col. 75, and the information included in the summary.
Summary: The hand-hewn-oak logs on the lower part of the walls has many gaps in the chinking, and the boards which face the logs in the upper potions are pulling away and warped. The tall single-story building shows areas where alterations have been done and additions added. A shed addition seems in much sturdier condition than the older structure. The post was built around 1843. areas on the long side wall are circled, and notes on the reverse describe these as gun placement holes. One nice detail is seen above the shed addition-a cornice return-which seems a bit refined for this type of structure.
