Title: Orchestra on the stage of the new High School Assembly Room, Valley City (N.D.)
Date: 1903
Inscription/Marks: On the page below the mounted photograph: col. 76-4, and "High School Orchestra On stage of the Assembly Room, Valley City, N.D."
Summary: A graceful stage fills one end of the Assembly Room in the new High School in Valley City, and on it are seated the members of the school Orchestra and their director. The director stands to the left, near the pianist. Heavy curtains are draped above the stage, and two doors lead from the back corners of the stage. Two United States flags are crossed over the portrait of George Washington on the rear wall. A young woman with the fashionable pompadour hairstyle popular at this period sits at the piano, turned to face the rows of student musicians. Four rows of seats are on stage for the students. Seven young women and ten young men are seated with instruments. Violins, clarinets a horn, and stringed instruments including a mandolin and several ukuleles are visible. Mounted in a scrapbook dedicated to the Grade and High School in Valley City, North Dakota.
