Title: Students at work in the Commercial Department classroom in the High School at Valley City (N.D.)
Date: 1903
Inscription/Marks: On the page below the mounted photograph: col. 76-9, and "Commercial Department--Valley City, No.Dak."
Summary: About thirty high school students, both boys and girls, are working at their desks in the large Commercial Department classroom. Some are at work on typewriters, others write diligently in notebooks. The teacher, male, stands in the back of the classroom, wearing a suit and tie with an old-fashioned high and detachable collar. The students are nicely dressed, the girls in Middy-dresses or long-sleeved dresses or skirts and blouses. The boys wear jackets over shirts or sweaters. The tall windows provide a good deal of light, and a kerosene lamp hangs from the center of the ceiling. This part of the school used for the High School classes, was built in 1903. Mounted in a scrapbook dedicated to the Grade and High School in Valley City, North Dakota.
