Title: A boy works a math problem on the blackboard of the Grade Three classroom in the Elementary School, Valley City (N.D.)

Inscription/Marks: On the page below the mounted photograph: col. 76-18, and "Grade Three--Valley City, N.D."
Summary: The young pompadoured teacher stands at her desk while one of the Garde Three boys works a math problem on the blackboard. He is explaining what he has figured, using a pointer. The girls at their desks have mainly braided hair, the boys wear coats. This is a large class with about thirty students. Blackboards line the walls on which there are two openings. One is a doorway and the other appears to lead to a staircase. A calendar chalked on one of the boards is for December. Two flags ans assorted pictures hang above the blackboards. This section of the building was built in 1894, an addition was made in 1898, and the high school built in 1903. All but the High School burned down in 1907. Mounted in a scrapbook dedicated to the Grade and High School in Valley City, North Dakota.
