Title: The Grade Six students listen attentively during a geography lesson at the Elementary School in Valley City (N.D.)
Date: 1903
Inscription/Marks: On the page below the mounted photograph: col. 76-22, and "Grade Six--Valley City, N.D."
Summary: Thirty some students of Grade Six of the Valley City (N.D.) Elementary School are turned in their desks and paying close attention to a speaker at the front of the classroom. The teacher stands at the front and listens as well, wearing a striped blouse and a long skirt. Books are open on the students desks, and the map of the continent of Africa appears on the pages. Along the top of the blackboards in the room are hung the maps of different continents drawn by the students. This section of the building was built in 1894, an addition was made in 1898, and the high school built in 1903. All but the High School burned down in 1907. Mounted in a scrapbook dedicated to the Grade and High School in Valley City, North Dakota.
