Title: Three tree branches stuck in ground with cloth and straw tied around tops
Date: Circa 1915
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-45.
Summary: Three medicine bundles are mounted on tall poles in the grass beside a rough log cabin on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. The bottomlands of a stream are in the distance. The cabin is log, with a sod roof and a small fixed pane window in the gable end. Plant material and cloth are twined together on the votive poles. It is likely this is a ethnologist Gilbert L. Wilson image that shows Hidatsa medicine bundles at the home of Calf Woman. Likely to be numbered III-16 or III-17, in the collection at the Minnesota Historical Society.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
