Title: Prairie church with Stick Style elements and a steeple
Date: Circa 1915
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-842.
Summary: A man and a couple of horses stand outside a prairie church. The church is not identified. It is a wood frame, gable-front, church with a squared steeple centered over the entry facade. Lancelt windows flank the above grade entry. The dominant detailing on the structure is the Stick Style trim work expressions found around the windows, in the upper gable-front, and as horizontal banding around the steeple and the lower portion of the exterior walls. A small vestibule is covered with a sweep of roof extending from the rear right corner of the side wall. A lancet window is contained in this extension. Efforts to place a name to the church as well as a location yielded nothing.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
