Title: Buffalo Paunch, Lance Owner and daughter walking from the dance arbor at Camp Little Missouri

Inscription/Marks: On the front: I-92, which corresponds to numbering of Minnesota Historical Society Wilson photos. On the back: col. 86-988, and the identifications noted in the summary.
Summary: Seen from the back, three figures in regalia, identified as "Buffalo Paunch, Lance Owner, and daughter", walk across the field toward the tipi and tent village of Camp Little Missouri, near Elbowoods on the Fort Berthold Reservation. The woman wears a fringed plaid shawl over her dress. The men wear tunics and leggings topped with halo style eagle feather headdresses. Taken during a 4th of July gathering in 1907, during the Gilbert L. Wilson ethnographic study of the Hidatsa and Mandan Indians living on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
