Title: A man speaks with women and two small children in a tipi camp on the Fort Berthold Reservation
Date: Circa 1905
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-1121, and "This good plate also is spoiled by the Bulvon which did not perform".
Summary: Four tipis and at least one wall tent are set near trees on the Fort Berthold Reservation. In the foreground a group of about eight women in shawls and long dresses interact with a man in dark clothes and hat. A small boy walks toward the group, and a small girl in braids looks up at the woman beside her. In the camp others walk about. Several wagons are by the tipis. Likely this is related to the Gilbert Wilson ethnographic studies of the Hidatsa Indians on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation between 1906 and 1919.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
