Title: Women and children in an Indian camp by a tipi with a handprint design
Date: Circa 1910
Inscription/Marks: On the front: "17" in pencil. On the back: col. 86-1125, and postcard marks.
Summary: A postcard scene taken most likely on the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, pictured are women and two small children moving about between the tipis and tents of a camp. Two tipis are visible, one patterned with a design of handprints. A woman with a Pendleton blanket over her shoulder is adjusting the air flap pole. Two eagle feather headdresses of the trailer style are set on posts by the tipis. The boy and girl stand between women in dark dresses and dark headscarves. Possibly this is a photograph by Frank Fiske, and dates to around 1910.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
