Title: Dr Hall, Mrs. Crows Heart, and Frances Densmore travel in a wagon as they depart Fort Berthold Agency
Date: 1915
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 96-1305, "a typed identification sticker, and writing containing the information of identity noted in the summary.
Summary: A party of people including the Reverend Dr. Charles Hall, Mrs. Crow's Heart, Ethnomusicologist Frances Densmore, the wagon driver and at least two others is paused on their departure from the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. One dark dog is sitting under the wagon while another sleek dark dog is on the move already. Dr. Hall rides in the rear of the wagon, holding the lead rope of a saddlehorse belonging to his daughter Dora. He wears a summer hat, a big smile, and his signature white beard. Mrs. Crow's Heart is wrapped head-to-toe in a light cloth, just her moccasins peaking from beneath the fabric. Miss Densmore wears a smart Smokey-the-Bear type felt hat, and a dark tie to accent her light shirt. The driver is not identified, but he wears a tall, domed hat. Densmore was asked by the superintendent of the State Historical Society to come to the Fort Berthold Reservation and conduct her linguistic and music research among the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara. This picture is from her 1915 field work.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
