Summary: The members of the first all-women jury in North Dakota, on July 26, 1923 are, left to right, Mrs. Linnie Slaughter Hedstrom (bailiff), Mrs. O.W. Roberts, Mrs. Joseph Breslow, Mrs. B.F. Flannigan, Mrs. P.E. Byrne, Mrs. E.J. Schultz, Mrs. Burt Finney, Mrs. A.P. Lenhart, Mrs. J.G. Cowan, Dr. Fannie Dunn Quain, Mrs. O.N. Dunham, Miss Carrie Haugen, Mrs. Alfred Zuger, and Sheriff Albin Hedstrom. __In 1923, after full woman suffrage was granted to all women citizens of the United States, Burleigh County impaneled an all-woman jury. These women were required to go to the court house and declare their intention to serve on a jury. Otherwise, women voters were excluded from jury duty. Some of the women in the photo of this rare event, were among the leading women of Bismarck and Burleigh County. The bailiff, Linnie Hedstrom, is the wife of Sheriff Albin Hedstrom and daughter of Linda Warfel Slaughter.
