Summary: People wait in Bismarck to board four special Northern Pacific trains bound for the Last Spike Ceremony in Montana. People on board the trains already look out the windows. Buildings belonging to the Bismarck Lumber Company are visible in the background. Villard’s Special Excursion trains (there were four of them) stopped at Bismarck on September 5, 1883. The guests left the train and rode up the hill to attend the laying of the cornerstone of the new territorial capitol building.
