Summary: A group of Indian men sit on beach wrapped in blankets with men standing behind them next to full bags. In the distant background log buildings and tipis stand in front of a hillside behind a palisade. Corrals and stables can be seen near the log buildings. Standing Rock Agency: Formerly known and established in 1868 as Grand River Agency on the banks of the Grand River (South Dakota) and relocated upstream in 1874 and renamed, Standing Rock Agency (Ft. Yates, North Dakota), is the Field Office for the Bureau of Indian Affairs providing Trust Services and Indian Services to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The Agency is located in Fort Yates, North Dakota (former U.S. Army Military Post), hub where most Federal, Tribal, Indian Health Services, State, and County offices are located. Standing Rock Agency Administrative offices are located two blocks south of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Administrative Center, tribal headquarters. The Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation straddles North and South Dakota and encompasses all of Sioux County in North and all of Corson County, and small parcels in Ziebach and Perkins Counties in South Dakota.

Summary: This collection contains seventy-five stereograph scenes photographed by Stanley J. Morrow between 1868 and 1882, six portraits of North American Indians by C. L. Hamilton, Fort Randall (D.T.), and two stereographs by Benjamin Franklin Upton from his series of Indian Portraits and Views. The Morrow stereographs includes views of the Badlands, signers of the Peace Treaty between the Rees, Gros Ventres and Mandans of Fort Berthold and the Sissetons (Sioux) of Fort Totten (D.T.), Yankton and Missouri River scenes and steamboats, Fort Totten and vicinity, Fort Abercrombie, Fort Stevenson, Fort Buford, Fort Berthold, Fort Rice, Fort Sully, Fort Thompson and vicinity, the Cheyenne Agency, Grand River Agency, and Santee Mission. The Upton stereographs show Indian village scenes and portraits. The C. L. Hamilton photographs are mostly full length portraits of Indians who were interned at Fort Randall (D.T.).
