Collection: 00071 - Former Governors' Mansion Photograph Collection
Folder: 0001
Item: 00006
Title: Program for a women's' luncheon at the old Governor's mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 1907-1913
Inscription/Marks: The program is printed in green ink, and the contents noted in the summary. On the back: 0071-6.
Summary: As was customary for social gatherings of women's clubs in Bismarck (N.D.) in the early days of the 1900s, programs detailing the order of the proceedings were printed, and distributed to those who would be in attendance. This example of a program at the Governor's Residence, once the Asa Fisher home, outlines the afternoon event held there on March 17. The year of the gathering is placed within the years of the term of Gov. John Burke, between 1907 and 1913. An Irish theme dominates the choices of readings and music, so likely there was a St. Patrick's Day nod. Musical contributions from Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Haney, Mrs. Weiser, Mrs. LaRose, Mrs. Tully, and Miss Harmon are listed on the program. Readings were by Mrs. Conklin. All of these good women were in a social circle together.
