Title: William and Lydia (Cady) Langer pose with two daughters, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: circa 1940
Creator: William Langer family
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-34.
Summary: Seated in an old armchair in his home at 114 W. Avenue B, Bismarck (N.D.) is politician William Langer. Two time governor and long-time U.S. Senator, Langer is regarded as one of the real characters of North Dakota politics. A black Scottie is at Mrs. Langer's feet. She shares an upholstered couch in between the younger Langer sisters. The youngest girl, Cornelia, is wearing a kilt and knee-socks, her older sister, Mary, wears a sweater, string of pearls, and a pleated skirt. The pictured daughters' names are not specified. Of their four girls, the oldest is Emma, born in 1918, followed by Lydia, Mary, and Cornelia. It appears likely these are the two youngest girls. Mrs. Langer wears a soft dark dress, accented with a brooch. Her husband holds a cigar in his hand. Mrs. Langer herself ran for elected position unsuccessfully. The stairs leading both upstairs and to the back, kitchen area are visible behind the family grouping. This is a family photograph from Mrs. F. Gokey, taken around 1944.
