Title: Front "middle" bedroom in the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 1932-1934, 1937-1939
Creator: William Langer family
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-36, "#9", "Gokey Col.", "Bedroom", and the state stamp.
Summary: Taken during either the first William Langer term, 1932-1934, or the second, 1937-1939, the photograph from the family collection shows a small bedroom in the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.). This bedroom is sandwiched between to other bedrooms on the front, or Avenue B side of the home. A large window and an doorway are framed together in the original casing from the 1884 construction. This south facing door of the little bedroom/nursery opens out onto a balcony. An open doorway in the east wall of the room connects the bedroom to the master bedroom of the Mansion. The furniture is a mixture of state provided furniture and the personal furniture brought in by Mrs. Langer, a woman of specific tastes, according to an oral interview with daughter Mary Langer Gokey. In the bedroom is a small turned wood bedframe with a chenille bedspread. A cheerfully upholstered armchair is near both doors, a kidney-shaped, skirted dressing table with a woven stool has a mirror over it and lamps and perfume bottle on it. A 5-drawer dresser is beside the front window, a small modern table in front of it holding papers and a lamp. The windows are covered with venetian blinds, brought in by Mrs. Langer. The floor has two Numbah rugs, a type of rug made in the far east out of felted and embroidered wool.
