Title: The dining room in the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 1932-1934, 1937-1939
Creator: Risem Studio
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-37.
Summary: Taken during either the first William Langer term, 1932-1934, or the second, 1937-1939, the photograph from the family collection shows a portion of the dining room in the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.). Risem of Bismarck has photographed the room looking into it from the open east side of the room, looking toward the lovely carved mantelpiece on the west side wall. On this west wall hang a plate, over the radiator, and a painting over the fire-place. The room is lit by light filtering in through the tall south and west windows. The windows have been covered with venetian blinds during Mrs. Langer's time as mistress of the Mansion. Drapes hang beside the widows. The sideboard, heavy and wooden has a cloth dresser scarf and a good bit of the Langer family silver on it. The state silver was not customarily used during the Langer years according to oral interviews with daughter Mary Langer Gokey. Chippendale style chairs are placed around the oval dining table. A Chinese screen is at the corner of the doorway.
