Title: Unidentified woman with two dogs in the snowy yard of the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: Circa 1955
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-39-07, "No date ca. 1950s".
Summary: A winter scene of an unidentified woman posing with two dogs outside the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.), this is dated from the 1950s. The outside door to the carriage house behind the mansion is open, and it appears a fresh fall of snow has blanketed the yard and the trees. The woman, about 35 to 40 years old is dressed in a heavy, knee-length coat over a skirt and snow boots. Her hair is protected by a thick scarf. One of the dogs at her feet is a cocker spaniel, the other may be a small border collie mixed breed. Possibly this is either the wife of the chauffeur, Phil Fetch, or the woman who ran the household for the governor's wife. It is unclear which Governor's family was in residence at this time, Aandahl left office in 1951, and was succeeded by Brunsdale from 1951-1957, and then Davis from 1957-1961.
