Title: Unidentified mother with two little daughters on the north lawn of the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 5/24/1952
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-39-18, "May 24, 1952", "18".
Summary: In an informal photograph taken on the north lawn of the Old Governor's Mansion in Bismarck (N.D.), near the Carriage House, a young mother stands holding her two small daughters by their hands. She wears a light-colored car-coat over a print dress, a scarf tied around her hair. The little girls, one aged about 3 and one about 5, wear shorts and tops. Though unidentified, it is likely that these are the wife and two of the four daughters of the Governor's chauffeur, Phil Fetch. The family lived for many years in the carriage house of the mansion, and Phyllis Fetch Keller donated a set of photographs to this collection. Dated May 24, 1952, this image was taken during the Brunsdale occupancy of the mansion. Brunsdale was elected in 1951, and lived in the house until 1957. After 1960, the new residence at the Capitol grounds housed the governors and their families and the old building repurposed.
