Collection: 00071 - Former Governors' Mansion Photograph Collection
Folder: 0002
Item: 00039_33
Title: A young woman by new landscaping at the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.).
Date: Circa 1955
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-39-33, "No Date", and "33".
Summary: An unidentified young woman in a dark coat over a light colored skirt stands in an area of the Old Governor's Mansion yard beside some landscaping work. The driveway to the Carriage House is behind her, and houses on the east side of 4th Street can be seen. It appears that structure is being put into place for a fence to surround the built-up garden. Though unidentified, the woman is likely part of the chauffeur, Phil Fetch's family. Taken in Bismarck (N.D.) during the 1950s, this photograph is likely from the collection of the chauffeur's family. The family lived in the Carriage House. It is unclear which Governor's family was in residence at this time, Aandahl left office in 1951, and was succeeded by Brunsdale from 1951-1957, and then Davis from 1957-1961.
