Summary: Christmas cards received in 1952 by Elizabeth Schwan and Nicholas Bischoff strung and hung in corner with religious display. The Gottes Eck (God’s Corner) is in the south-east corner the front room / living room of their home at 318 4th Street, Rugby, North Dakota. It consists of a crucifix flanked by St. John and Mary, the Mother of God at the foot of the cross. The two small statues are of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the left and Our Lady of the Rosary on the right To the sides are prints ( the Immaculate Heart of Mary) hanging on the east wall and print of (Sacred Heart of Jesus) on the south wall. Below the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a table with doily and flowers in a vase. Elizabeth Schwan and Nicholas Bischoff were devout Catholic, Black Sea Germans from Russia. Photograph by Theresa Bischoff Halvorson, their youngest daughter, taken in Bischoff home at 318 4th Street, Rugby, North Dakota. [Information from Mark J. Halvorson] Ethnic group - specifically Catholic, Black Sea Germans from Russia (Schwartz Meer Deutsche) from the Kutschurgan villages, not German-Americans. They were emigrants from Russia, Grandpa was a naturalized citizen and spoke English in addition to German and Russian. Grandma only spoke German.
