Title: Thomas Rogers (Charges Alone), Elbowoods, N.D.

Inscription/Marks: Back of photo captioned "This is Thomas Rogers, Elbowoods, N.D. Volunteered in Company "I", 2nd N.D. Infantry, 1917, A. B. Welch, Capt. Commanding Officer. Served with distinction in the First Division, in World War and was cited for exceptional bravery in the face of the enemy. His Indian name is Ska-na-tu-na-wi-nag, which means "Charges Alone." He is a member of the Sanish or Arikara Tribe. He is 38 years of age (1925). Father's name was Nu-ti-ha-ni (Young Snake). His grandfather was the famous Sa-kaa (Star). Mother's name was Sa-ni-na-ka-ta (Yellow Calf Woman). Belongs to the "Dead Grass" Society of soldiers. Photo taken in 1923."
