Summary: Three-quarter view of the front and right side of the William Moore School nestled among trees taken from the street. [history] Located on the corner of Fifth Street and Rosser Avenue, it was built by Robert B. Mason, who owned and operated a brickyard in the west end of the city. It was the first public school building that was built and owned by the new School District Number One of Burleigh County Dakota Territory. The first principal was Frank A. McCreary. It borders on Queen Anne style of architecture, is two stories in height, with elevated mansard roof and a handsome tower on the south side. It was converted to a grade school in 1912 and on April 16, 1918 it was officially re-named William Moore School for William Moore who was its principal from 1895-1908. It was rented to Burleigh County for offices for the County Auditor and Treasurer after the North Ward School was built in 1884. The building was torn down when the present Will School was built in 1905.
