Summary: Three-quarter view of front entrance and side of St. Mary's School on Ninth Street and Thayer Avenue. St. Mary’s School The Catholic school, successfully conducted by the Benedictine sisters was established by the late Bishop Martin Marty and Reverend Chrysostom Foffe, O.S.B., in 1878. The building was large enough to accommodate boarders and day scholars till September, 1898, when it became necessary not to take boarders, for want of room. A splendid opportunitiy of education in music, both vocal and instrumental has been guaranteed to the pupils of St. Mary’s school, and outsiders. Annually many avail themselves of this chance and the reasonable terms. The number of pupils is 150. Four sisters are teaching. If good prospects are in store in future a nice, substantial building will grace the city of Bismarck some day. St. Mary’s parochial school, Bismarck was dedicated by Bishop Shanley on February 5, 1908, after which Pontifical Mass was celebrated. In the afternoon the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered; and in the evening an entertainment was given in the assembly hall of the new school.
