Local boy scout troops assisted in the campaign and the city engineers identified Custer Park as the ideal location because of the drainage and water supply. Work building the pool began in June of 1921 and was completed in July of 1921. The grand opening and formal transfer of ownership to the city of Bismarck happened on Saturday,July 30, 1921. [Bismarck_Tribune_Sat__Jul_30__1921_P01] Campaign to start building the Municipal Swimming Pool started in May of 1921 with high school boys selling sacks of cement to raise money for constructing the pool. It was completely paid for by the community under the direction of the local Elks club #1109 and included not only the swimming pool but separate changing rooms for boys and girls, hot water shower baths, fencing, bathing suits, life preservers, spring boards, checking baskets, games. The pool held over 500,000 gallons of water and officially opened at 2:00pm Saturday, July 30, 1921.
