Title: Ranchers pushing cattle into stream
Date: 7/26/1936
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0075-172, and a taped identification sheet on Works Progress Administration paper, crediting the Picture Records section of the agency, and providing the information--Serial number 20 48; date taken-7-26-36; by WLH; South Dakota--White Butte; and photo description "Cattle being driven to White Butte, S.D. for shipment out of drouth area due to lack of feed and water."
Summary: Four stockmen monitor the herd of cattle at a watering hole in a shallow prairie stream. A fence line and a utility pole are on the far side of the stream, and the view is open and arid-looking. The men wear hats and only the youngest one is still mounted on his horse. The grass around the water looks over-grazed and dry. This herd is being taken to White Butte (S.D.) to be shipped out of the drought area.
