Summary: View of a coal mining operation from an elevated position. A railroad car stands at center. There is a narrow smokestack on a stone building at left. The mine entrance can be seen just right of center. Piles of lumber and coal are in the foreground. Trees are in the background. The first coal mine in Lehigh was founded by F. Reilly in the 1880s. After about 1900, the Pittsburgh Coal Co. took over operation of the mines.
