Title: Scene at Beach (N.D.)
Date: 11/3/1909
Inscription/Marks: [front-print] Scene at Beach, N. Dak. [back-written] Dear friend Jennie, I guess you don't think I intend to write to you. I didn't get a chance to go to Beach for 3 weeks after we got here but finally went and saw Mrs. Richards, she said she had some very nice lots near the school house for $95 a lot, I think that's pretty high but Bech is surely a lively place. I never saw a place of its size and age that did so much business, you can get some idea from this view, this is a great country to make money. With best wishes from your friend -A. Mengal Mrs. Jennie Philpott, Loyal, Wis.
Summary: A view from an elevated position overlooking the town. A few railroad cars and a water tower are in the foreground. The depot is on the far left. There are several grain elevators in the distance along the railroad tracks. The town itself is visible on the right. Snow is on the ground. The Northern Pacific Railroad built a facility here in 1881. Settlement began in 1900. By 1910, the town had over 1,000 inhabitants. In 1912, Beach became the seat of Golden Valley County.
