Summary: View of Fargo early in its development. A row of storefronts is shown on the other side of an open space and street. People are standing in the left foreground. Trees are visible beyond the row of buildings.||Fargo was founded as The Crossing in 1871 and was known unofficially as Tent City. The name changed first to Centralia, then to Fargo in 1872. The city, located on the Red River, is the seat of Cass County. This photograph was taken from the Headquarters Hotel, constructed in 1872.
