Title: Buffalo Wolf killed by Oscar Soma 14 miles southwest of Finley (N.D.)

Summary: Photograph of buffalo wolf shot and killed 14 miles southwest of Finley, N.D. on Monday morning, 09 April 1951. Tracked by Oscar Soma, Melvin Dronen and Julius Kastet, with Soma doing the final shooting. Soma is shown with the animal in the photo which was sent in by Conrad Blomberg, editor of the Steele County Press at Finley (ND). Found among Russell Reid's correspondence. Story on the tracking and shooting run on page 1 of the issue of 12 April 1951 and the photo appeared on page 1 of the 19 April 1951 issue. Identified as a buffalo wolf by "experts"--definitely not a timber wolf. Measured 5 feet, 10 inches from nose to tail, weighted 87 1/2 pounds, stood 2 feet, 3 inches at the shoulder.
