Summary: View of Fargo as a tent city from across a field. The photograph is facing east from the south side of the Northern Pacific right-of-way.||Fargo was founded as The Crossing in 1871 and was known unofficially as Tent City. The name changed first to Centralia, then to Fargo in 1872. The city, located on the Red River, is the seat of Cass County. This picture shows tents from the Northern Pacific Railroad Company and is very early in the existence of the town.

Summary: Scenes from around North Dakota, including images of farms of Norwegian and Danish immigrants in Sargent and Richland counties, the Gold Spike expedition for completion of the Northern Pacific Railroad 1883, and portraits and postcards.
