Title: Sign left by Dakotas on their trail
Date: ca. 1910
Summary: The skull of a buffalo on one side of a pile of stones and the skull of a buffalo cow on the other side; a pole slanting toward the skull of the buffalo cow served as a pointer or finger post. The Arikara interpreted the sign to mean that when the Dakotas were overtaken they would fight like a buffalo bull and the soldiers would run from them like women.
