Title: Henry C. Burman, 5 year old boy, with dog, Casselton (D.T.)

Inscription/Marks: "Burman [negative envelope] J.R. Hamlin Photography Studio, Hamlin was born in Maine circa 1832. He came to the Casselton, N.D. area circa 1885 with his wife Polina, son John Jr. and his mother Lucy. He lived there until at least 1896 -- by 1900 the family had left the state.
Summary: Henry C. Burman, the five year old son of Alex Burman, resident of Casselton (DT) stands holding on to the back of a twisted wire chair in a "Little Boy Blue" outfit with velvet jacket, white shirt with lace collar, front and cuffs tucked into knee length pants with black stockings and calf-high button up boots. Next to him sits his dog on the floor. They are photographed in a studio setting with a painted Victorian backdrop showing a decorative table and fireplace mantel. The original photograph was an albumen print on cabinet card. Image was photographed by J. R. Hamlin.

Title: North Dakota Oral History Project Photograph Collection

Summary: Consists of copies of photographs belonging to people interviewed for the North Dakota Oral History Project. The Project was undertaken by Larry Sprunk, with the cooperation of the North Dakota American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, the North Dakota Farmers Union, and the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The primary objective of the North Dakota Oral History Project was to conduct oral tape recorded interviews with North Dakotans who lived through the state's history and who could speak of this history from a first-hand basis. Interviewees were photographed at the time of their interviews. In addition, the project borrowed over 6,000 historical photographs which were copied and added to the State Historical Society's collection. Many interviewees also donated family histories, documents, letters, ledgers, books, and artifacts.
