Summary: The various fort buildings at Fort Abercrombie are visible in this sketch done from a balloon. Soldiers drill on the parade grounds, and a flag is visible in the center of the stockade. A tipi is located outside the walls, and Indians dance in a circle. A wagon and horses drives towards the fort.||Fort Abercrombie was the first fort in the Dakota Territory, built in 1857, dismantled the next year, and reconstructed in 1860.
