Folder: 0001
Item: 00013
Title: Sod house and barn, Devils Lake (N.D.)
Date: circa 1910
Creator: Harrison, Job V. (Job Vincent),--1873-1955
Inscription/Marks: Noted on the back: Col 9-13 Harrison Collection Threshing. Sod houses. Gift of State Game and Fish Department, August 1964.
Summary: An unidentified family stands on their homestead near Devils Lake with cows and several horses. Two sod buildings can be seen, a house with walls shored up with long poles, and the other a barn, housing chickens and other animals. Two girls, one in a straw boater hat, the other in a pinafore, sit in a horse-drawn cart while the parents hold onto the cows. A team of horses is harnessed next to the farmer. Two other horses are between the family group and the barn building. Another wagon is parked beside the barn. The house seems pretty unstable, and the sod roof is full of weeds.
