Collection: 00009 - Job V. Harrison Photo Collection
Folder: 0001
Item: 00015
Title: Log cabin near Devils Lake (N.D.)
Date: circa 1910
Creator: Harrison, Job V
Inscription/Marks: Noted on back: Col 9-15 Harrison Collection Log cabin. Gift of State Game and Fish Department, August 1964.
Summary: Harrison has captured a scene showing a family posed in front of their log house. The house is a large rectangular peeled log building, with two pens, dove-tailed corner notching, and a low-pitched roof. Two stove pipes are visible. Two double-hung 2-over-2 light windows are on one side. A doorway with a slat-door and another 2-over-2 light double-hung window are on the other visible wall. Across the front of the house are posed a woman holding a horse, a older, bearded man leaning on the house with his dog at his feet. Seated by the doorway, near her husband is an older woman in a long dark dress. Beside her sits a young woman holding a violin, and wearing a hat and little jacket. Beneath the front, flower-filled window are the other family dogs. All four dogs look ready to go hunting with the mustached young man holding his shot-gun, at their sides.
