Summary: Mamie Smith, Mrs. Susan Hall and Dora (Deborah) Hall sit in front of a tree in a wooded area near Elbowoods.||Susan Webb was the second wife of Dr. Charles L. Hall. She was girls matron for eight years at the Santee Normal Training School at Santee, Nebraska. She had two children, Evan and Deborah. She married Dr. Hall in 1886. She died in 1922.Deborah Hall (known in Fort Berthold as Dora) married Rudolf Herz in 1926, whom she met doing work for the YWCA. Hertz did mission work in South Dakota, and the couple moved to various places around the state. They moved to New York in 1933 while Rudolf Hertz got training to manage the Santee Normal School in Nebraska, which he did for three years. The Hertzes moved back to South Dakota, where Rudolf died in 1953. Later in life, Mrs. Hertz returned to the Fort Berthold Reservation to keep the parsonages and help the ministers.Mamie Smith lived with the Halls for a couple of years while she and Deborah Hall went to school together. Her parents ranched in the Badlands.
