Title: Three early buildings at the State Teachers College, Dickinson (N.D.)
Date: Circa 1930
Creator: Presthus, Ingemar
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 00323, "State Teachers College Dickinson W.W. Jeske 100", and postcard marks.
Summary: Taken from the edge of the campus grounds, local photographer, Ingemar Presthus shows all three buildings of the State Normal, or Teachers, College, in Dickinson (N.D.). All the buildings are large, brick, and stylistically related. Stickney Hall, here in the center, was built in 1921, and rises to three full stories over a high ground floor. The entry doors are up a short staircase and the entry, slightly recessed between two projecting sections of different widths and heights, has a triangular pediment. Essentially it is a rectangular building with large grouped windows of uniform spacing and size. To the left of Stickney Hall is a larger building, also rectangular and three stories of brick over a functional ground floor. The entrance is in a slightly projecting bay, trimmed with limestone at the corners and around the recessed door. The largest of the buildings, to the right of Stickley Hall and the entry driveway, is the Main Hall of the campus. Built in 1923, this four story brick building has a curved facade with a central projecting entry bay with a recessed doorway. A further curve occurs along the right facade, and this end of the facade abuts what looks like a gymnasium portion, containing windows separated by brick buttress details. Rising behind the front facade is a high gable roof.
