Title: People by the public boat house on the Red River, Fargo (N.D.)
Date: 1936-1942
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 75/780, "236" stamped, "#655", "6B", and "Boathouse, Red River, Fargo, N.D."
Summary: A number of adults and children are gathered in or beside the waters of the Red River on a nice summer day in Island Park, Fargo (N.D.). The edges of the river have been stabilized with concrete and the river deepened at this site. Tables and benches of other men, women and children are enjoying a summer day on the banks of the Red River in the park. Some are dressed to swim, others to watch. A snack shack further back from the water's edge sells treats. Boat houses and other structures are built right at the edge of the water. Tall, slender elm or ash trees give shade to the people. Before and after the WPA improvements to the park added an actual swimming pool, this area was a popular, widely-used summer spot.
