Summary: A woman off-camera has just finished placing a "Langer" political button on the jacket of a smiling Governor Art Link. Worn as an in-joke among political friends at a reception in the Patterson Hotel in Bismarck during the 1975 political campaigns, the reference is to the scandal-ridden Wild Bill Langer, twice elected as the governor of North Dakota. A colorful personality, Langer was removed from office in 1934, tried, and convicted of conspiring to defraud the federal government, and then re-elected in 1937. He was a member of the Non-Partisan party. He also served in the United States senate from 1941-1959. Link holds a stryofoam beverage container in one hand. Taken on Nov. 17, 1975 by a Bismarck Tribune photographer, possibly Leo LaLonde, Steve Wallick, or Jerry Anderson, all working at the paper during this period, and part of a collection of several decades of newspaper photographs donated by the Tribune.
