Summary: One of the flashes of light in the dark night sky over Bismarck, North Dakota is identified as the Soviet Russian satellite, Sputnik III. Sputnik III was launched into its Earth orbit on May 15, 1958. The satellite weighed 1.46 tons and spent 692 days in Earth's orbit. Sputnik III re-entered the atmosphere and burned on April 6, 1960.
