Title: Two girls in fancy dress in front of tipi decorated with hand-prints
Date: Circa 1915
Inscription/Marks: On the front: "10". On the back: col. 86-657, and postcard marks.
Summary: Two young girls in print dresses accessorized with shawls, and fancy bits at the neck lines stand solemnly outside a tipi which is marked with a number of painted hand prints. A feathered lance stands by them, and a man in a cardigan sweater is at the edge of the scene. Each girl has a different decoration forming a collar to her dress. The older girl has a neck-piece beaded in a webbed design, with coins at the terminal points, and her belt is beaded. The smaller girl's collar is decorated with what looks like dark lace. Their braided hair is gathered back by large bows. Likely taken at a gathering on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation around 1915, and printed as a postcard.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
