Title: Three young boys in ceremonial dance regalia and body paint seen from the back
Date: Circa 1910
Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-676, and "4".
Summary: Clad with little other than feather headdresses and body paint, three small boys walk across a field on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, presenting their bare posteriors to the viewer, Slung around the two more visible lads are satchels of some sort. The third child is only barely seen in front of one of the other boys. Likely a ceremonial event happening on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, during a period of intensive ethnologic work on the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara. They are not identified. Likely taken around 1910.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
