Title: Two young Wishram Indian girls wearing regalia and gathering berries

Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-1415, "66", and "Wishham".
Summary: A rocky hillside rises sharply behind two young girls of the Tlakluit or Wishram Indian tribe of Oregon and Washington. They are wearing elaborate regalia of intricate beadwork. One girl has on a traditional hat of woven plant fibers decorated in a tribal design. A basket woven in a similar way sits at her feet. Her companion wears no hat but has long braids and a dentalium breastplate. They are gathering berries from a bush. The Wishram are known as the Tlakluit and Echeloot. They traditionally settled in permanent villages along the north banks of the Columbia River. This is a photograph taken in 1910 by Edward Curtis and included in a volume of his 20 volume series on the North American Indians.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
