Title: Two young Piegan women gathering goldenrod in a Montana field

Inscription/Marks: On the back: col. 86-1445, "D101", "small", "x3225", "Little Plume's Daughters Piegan" this is crossed out, and "Goldenrod meadows-piegan".
Summary: Two smooth-faced young Piegan women, likely in their early teens, stand in a meadow holding armloads of goldenrod plants or balsamroot they have gathered. Each has a small parfleche envelope around her neck, decorated with painted designs. Their hair is bound in low-looped braids, and their dresses are of deerskin with beaded decorations. Taken in 1910 by photographer Edward S. Curtis, on his second trip to the area of Montana where the Piegan division of the Blackfeet tribes live. __Goldenrod meadows - Piegan

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
