Summary: Straight on view of two story officers quarters building at Camp Hancock showing fire damaged siding. There are wooden boxes under the covered porch, a straight ladder at the corner of the east side going from ground level to the roof. On the west end is a shed addition with an angled roof, solid window with divided panes and a white steel door. A modern storm door at the top of wooden stairs allows entrance to the interior of the building. Beyond the site are other buildings on Main Avenue in Bismarck. [Photos taken by Paul L. Cooper, Acting Field Director, River Basin Surveys, Burnett Hall, University of Nebrasaka, Lincoln 8, Nebraska on April 12, 1950.] [Camp Hancock was originally known as Camp Greeley, founded in 1872. The name changed the following year. The site initially was the supply depot for Fort Abraham Lincoln. The post, as seen here, became an office of the Weather Bureau after it was no longer needed to supply Fort Abraham Lincoln. Today the site is located in Bismarck on West Main Street.] __[Camp Hancock burned Bismarck_Tribune_Sat__May_21__1949_p01] [Camp Hancock Future Undecided after fire Bismarck_Tribune_Sat__Jun_25__1949_p02]
